7 Days Kadavu Classic - 7 Days Family Journeys - 5 Days Slice of Kadavu
(TC 67)

7-Day Kadavu Classic Itinerary

Over seven days and six nights we combine world-class sea-kayaking and snorkeling with treks through rain-forests, visits to isolated villages, picnics on beaches, side-trips and surprises.

We overnight in small, simple resorts, and spend one night as guests in a village. No camping!

Duration: 7 days/ 6 nights. Suitable for newcomers to sea-kayaking (tuition provided), and experienced kayakers. Open to adults (16+).

Day 1
At 11am we rendezvous at Fiji's Nadi International Airport, in time to board the 45-minute Pacific Sun flight to the island of Kadavu. From there a 1-2 hour scenic boat ride will ferry us along Kadavu's coastline to Waisalima Beach Resort. Time for a sea-kayaking refresher course, and a swim or snorkel off the beach.

Day 2
We have a great day trip planned: sea-kayaking along the coast and up into the mangroves at the head of Kavala Bay, then trekking into the rainforest for a refreshing swim under a towering waterfall, before returning to Waisalima Beach Resort for another night.

Day 3
A big day of sea-kayaking: across the channel to the island of Ono, and then around the coastline, through schools of flying fish, to the village of Naqara. We will be ceremonially welcomed by the chief and the villagers, and invited to share in the sacred drink, kava, and the feast cooked in the underground oven, the lovo.

Day 4
After a fond farewell to the people of Naqara, we continue our journey around the coastline of the island, stopping somewhere special for a picnic lunch. More kayaking after lunch takes us to Kenia Beach Resort, where comfortable beach-front bures await us.

Day 5
The biggest day of the expedition: we cross the channel between Ono and Kadavu then kayak along the coast, stopping to enjoy another picnic/snorkel/siesta session. By the end of the day we're in a resort named Matava, the Great Astrolabe Hideaway. Matava is a unique resort, situated where the rain-forest meets the reef. Luxurious surroundings and adventurous pursuits are a specialty.

Day 6
A kayak journey across turquoise lagoons, and time to snorkel where turtles are often seen. We'll paddle a little further to a nearby village for lunch, rest a little, then follow a trail through the forest to a spectacular waterfall and swimming area. Back to Matava for a special last-evening dinner and a well-earned sleep.

Day 7
More sea-kayaking and snorkeling for those still keen, otherwise a sleepy morning. Another scenic boat-ride (1 hour) to Kadavu's airport, a farewell to the guides, then a 45-minute flight back to Nadi International Airport and onward travel plans. (Scheduled arrival time back in Nadi: 1.45pm.)

7-Day Family Journeys Itinerary

Each year Tamarillo offers a number of family-friendly expeditions. Children can experience the adventure, culture and nature of Kadavu in safety. The adults can enjoy quality time with the young ones, and find space to rest and recreate as well.

We encourage the children to sea-kayak with us wherever and whenever it's safe to do so, either with a parent or a guide in Tamarillo's stable double sea-kayaks.

While the basic route is the same as that for the Kadavu Classic expedition where the Family Journey differs is in the pace, and the back-up support available.

The guiding team will arrange special activities for the children, such as local school visits, fishing trips, snorkeling tuition, games, music, and mystery walks, along with the sea-kayaking, to ensure their enjoyment and full involvement in the expedition.

Equally important, the adults will experience a week of world-class sea-kayaking and snorkeling, cultural exchanges, friendship and adventure, ensuring all family members take home memories of a precious shared experience.

Duration: 7 days/6 nights. Suitable for people of all ages in good health, adventurous family groups, newcomers to sea-kayaking (tuition given).

5 Days Fiji Kayaking
Island of Kadavu - Fiji Islands
(TC 67)

The 'Slice of Kadavu' is a 5-day journey through the island's natural environment. In addition to Kadavu's world-class sea-kayaking, the expedition includes plenty of time for snorkeling the coral reefs, trekking to waterfalls within the rain-forest, and enjoying picnics and siestas on deserted beaches. On one of the days we'll visit a small Fijian village for lunch. The 5-day 'Slice of Kadavu' expedition is similar to the 7-day 'Kadavu Classic', without crossing over the channel to explore Ono Island.

We overnight in two small resorts: Waisalima and Matava. No camping!

Day 1: At 11am we rendezvous at Fiji's Nadi International Airport, in time to board the 45-minute Pacific Sun flight to the island of Kadavu. From there a 1-2 hour scenic boat ride will ferry us along Kadavu's coastline to Waisalima Beach Resort. Time for a sea-kayaking refresher course, and a swim or snorkel off the beach.

Day 2: After breakfast we sea-kayak along the coast, stopping to swim and snorkel in a sheltered cove, before arriving at a lovely beach for a picnic lunch. From there we paddle into the mangroves at the head of Kavala Bay, where we leave our sea-kayaks and trek into the rainforest for a refreshing swim under a towering waterfall, before returning to Waisalima Beach Resort by motorboat for another night.

Day 3: A big day of sea-kayaking: around the coastline, past many small islands, beaches and bays, with the Great Astrolabe Reef on our left, and the rugged hills of Kadavu on our right. There's time for snorkeling, and stops on beaches for picnics and refreshments, before we arrive at Matava Resort.

Day 4: We'll start the day with a snorkeling session in the incredible Waya Island marine reserve, then we'll kayak across a series of turquoise lagoons where turtles are often seen. Eventually we'll arrive at a small traditional Fijian village where we'll have lunch and rest a little. From there we'll follow a trail through the forest to a spectacular waterfall and swimming area. Back to Matava by motorboat for a special last-evening dinner and a well-earned sleep.

Day 5: More snorkeling in Waya Island marine reserve for those still keen, otherwise a sleepy morning. Another scenic boat-ride (1 hour) to Kadavu's airport, and a 45-minute flight back to Nadi International Airport and onward travel plans.
